Due to increased electricity demands, CNOOC's Lufeng offshore drilling platform approached the original supplier (a joint venture brand) for upgrades, only to be informed that they could provide products but not upgrade services. The platform produces over 20,000 barrels of crude oil daily. Any delay due to power supply issues results in inestimable losses for every minute of downtime.
